Do Not Weep

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

In the book of Revelation, we read of John’s tears…  “And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scrolls?’… I wept and wept because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or look inside. Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep! See the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.’ Then I saw a Lamb, looking as though it had been slain standing in the center of the throne…” (Revelation 5:1-6).

Friends, we find our hearts weeping for the state of our world, our countries, and our own homes. Who is able to fix it all? Who has enough power to stop this tsunami of evil? Who can make cold hearts love again? It’s all too big of a problem for us as mere mortals, but we, like John, need to wipe our eyes and see that we have an Advocate - our Lord Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, who is the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world.

Isn’t it wonderful that our Helper is the only One worthy to bring judgment and justice to a wayward world, and He is ALSO the only One able to bring peace and comfort to our war-torn hearts. There is no other!

CS Lewis captured the power of our Great Lion so well…

“Wrong will be right when Aslan comes in sight,

At the sound of His roar, sorrow will be no more,

When He bares His teeth, winter will meet its death,

And when He shakes His mane, we shall have spring again.” (The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.)

Soon, dear ones, “God will wipe away all tears from our eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be anymore pain, for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
