This last week the Pope made a statement on TV, that was seen around the world, claiming that there is no real place called hell, but that it is simply, “a separation from God; a state of heart.” Jesus never lies to us to make us comfortable. He told us the uncomfortable truth about many things to warn us. He told us our sin has separated us from God and we must repent of our sins. He told us that we need to die to our own selfish desires, that want to rule our lives, if we want to grow in our spiritual walk. He told us there is an eternity after this life, for ALL of us, and that there is a Heaven, and a Hell.
He tells us Hell is a place of unquenchable fire (Mark 9:43), of eternal torment (Luke 16:23), where the worm does not die (Mark 9:48), where people will gnash their teeth in regret and anguish (Matthew 13:42), and a place where there is no returning to warn others (Luke 16:19-31). Jesus referred to it as a “place of outer darkness,” (Matthew 25:30), even referring to it as “Gehenna” which was a dump outside of Jerusalem, where maggots crawled and fires burned.
Jesus spoke more of Hell than He did of Heaven, and in detail! There’s no question that He knew it was a reality. He tells us the raw truth because He loves us and “is not willing that any should perish but that ALL should come to repentance.” Matthew 25:41 tells us that “hell was prepared for Satan and his angels.” This is so important to know that God never made hell for His creation, and He never predestines someone to hell. They end up there by their own free will and their rejection of God’s way of salvation.
Friends, the father of lies is working overtime these days to deceive the world into believing that everyone goes to Heaven. In their lie, there is no need of the Cross, or repentance, in fact, Jesus, Himself, is not needed. This is demonic, and the truth of God’s word must be shared. There is a real Heaven, a real Hell, and it’s loving others like Jesus did, to tell them this. They need the Truth so they can be prepared. We will all live into eternity, but where?
