Confidence In Christ

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

The little epistle of First John uses the phrases “we know” and “you know” no less than twenty-five times. In a world filled with distress because it “doesn’t know” who to believe, or what to do, God has provided anchors of truth for these very times.

It begins with the eyewitness testimony of John – “That One which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have gazed upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of Life… that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us: and truly, our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. These things we write to you that your joy may be full” – (1 John 1:1-4).

We can walk through this world – no matter how bad it gets - knowing Jesus, possessing joy, and being filled with confidence in our salvation. We can know the marks of a true Believer and false convert. We can know we’re in the last days, know what antichrist is like, what he’ll do, and the false message he’ll preach. We can know how to withstand him and win. We can know that we have eternal life, that God will answer our prayers, and that we are walking in Truth. Best of all, we know He’s returning, and our rescue is coming.

Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world: the one who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). And He meant it. To lack knowledge is to walk in darkness. But knowledge is light and life.

Great peace and confidence are offered to all who will hear His words and believe.
