“Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations He has made in the earth. He makes wars to cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two. He burns the chariot in the fire. ‘Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’” - (Psalm 46:8-10)
One of the beauties of prophecy, is that it gives us a view of things beyond the battleground of this life. If the first few days of watching wrongs being made right is sweet - of prison doors being opened, of lawlessness being restrained - think of what’s coming in Christ!
When God revealed to Jeremiah the joys that would come through Christ, it carried him through the darkest days of his nation. He saw how it all ended… “The Lord has ransomed Jacob from the hand of him that was stronger than he. Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord… their soul shall be as a watered garden, and they shall not sorrow any more at all.”
Jeremiah saw wrongs being made right, justice being served, families reunited, the nation thriving, blessed, and safe from enemies. He saw global peace, not just national peace, which even transformed the animal kingdom. He heard the Lord say, “I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.” Jeremiah wrote, “Upon this I awoke, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet to me” (Jeremiah 31:26).
My father used to take the song, “Take time to be holy” and change the words to “Take time to behold Him.” It changes everything. Can you hear Him call you into His Word… “Come, behold the works of the Lord!”
