Intimacy with Christ has always been the heart of God for us. We read in the Old Testament that the Spirit of God would be “with” them. God assured Moses, “I will be with you…” (Exodus 3:12). “David became more and more powerful because the Lord God Almighty was with him” (2 Samuel 5:10).
But a time was coming when this intimacy would reach a new height. Christ’s death for us on the cross opened a New Covenant, a Covenant of love and intimacy, where we are sealed eternally as His own. “Even the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for He dwells WITH you and will be IN you” (John 14:17).
On Pentecost, we remember the day the gift of the Holy Spirit was given to all who believed on Him as Lord. Gifts of many kinds were given to all believers, empowering them to live out their faith with a new Power, a new Strength, and a Comforter to encourage them as they lived for Him each day.
What a Gift! It’s been said that we have become accustomed to His presence within us, so much so, that if we were to experience life without His Spirit, we would feel crushed by the weight of this world.
May our hearts overflow with thankfulness for the miracle that is “Christ IN us, the hope of glory!” (Colossians 1:27)
