When we read God’s Word, we are hearing “the still small voice” of the Lord. At least fifteen times in the New Testament alone, we read, “He that has ears, let him hear.” But the coming Great Tribulation begins with a shout that will shake the world. It is Jesus Christ getting the attention of the stubborn, and in essence saying, “Can you hear Me now?” Those who won’t listen to words of grace and truth will hear the roar of justice and wrath…
“The Lord shall roar from on high and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He shall mightily roar upon His habitation; He shall give a shout, as those who tread grapes against all the inhabitant of the earth. A rushing noise shall come to the ends of the earth, for the Lord has a controversy with the nations” (Jeremiah 25:30,31) …
“He shall roar like a lion” (Hosea 11:10) … “The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake, but the Lord will be the hope of His people, and the strength of the children of Israel” (Joel 3:16) … “The Lord will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem, and the dwelling places of the shepherds (world leaders) shall mourn” (Amos 1:2).
The resurrection of Jesus Christ put the world on notice for His return in justice. But for those who love Him, the shout is not something we fear, but the sound we long for… “For the Lord shall descend from Heaven with a shout… and we shall be caught up together to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:16,17).
A great awakening will follow these days of great evil. As the poet Longfellow said so well, “You weary saints, fresh courage take, for the clouds you so much dread, are rich in mercy and shall break with blessing on your head.”
These days only prove how near Jesus is. Let the “still small voice” of His Word comfort your heart and prepare you for the glorious Roar.
