Boldness Of Love

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

There is a boldness to love and truth that can stand against the most powerful opposition. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were three faithful men who stood against an entire Empire dedicated to idolatry. Their love for Christ made them bold, even with the threat of death – and their certainty of His truth made them confident.

Jesus gave us the same encouragement… “Whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and My Words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him also shall the Son of Man be ashamed, when he comes back in the glory of His Father with the holy angels” (Mark 8:38).

The early Christians had a boldness that all the persecution of the Roman Empire could not snuff out, because they had a vibrant, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When the Romans and religious leaders imprisoned the followers of Christ, Paul wrote to Timothy… “Do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share in the afflictions of the Gospel by the power of God… and although I suffer (as a criminal), I am not ashamed: for I know Who I have believed in, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have entrusted to Him (my soul) for that Day (of His return)” – (2 Timothy 1:8,12).

A smorgasbord of idolatries marks our generation. But Jesus is the only Door of Salvation… “There is no other name under Heaven, given among humanity, by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). And to those who are so thankful to be saved from sin, death, and Hell, who love and walk with Christ by faith, and who long for Better Country ruled by the King of Righteousness, we read these wonderful words… “God is not ashamed to be called their God: for He has prepared for them a City” (Hebrews 11:16).
