Be Strong

A young man in Indonesia heard a sound like a rushing water tap. Where was it coming from? Suddenly his feet were wet, and the rushing sound grew louder. Looking behind him a wall of water was coming towards him. He ran, but the water was faster. He saw a tree up ahead and pushed towards it. Grabbing hold of it he was able to resist the deadly push of the water and climb to safety. There he stayed watching the destruction of the tsunami all around him. Grabbing hold of the tree not only saved his life, but he was able to save a young boy swept near him.

When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Lord told His prophets to tell the people to “be strong.” He wasn’t just saying “buck up.” The word means to “grab hold of something/someone stronger than yourself” - “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10).

This same word “be strong by grabbing hold of One stronger” is also translated as ‘courage.’ “Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord” (Psalm 27:14).

Psalm 46 describes the very tsunami of evil we’re seeing, and our immovable Tree of Life… “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains are carried into the midst of the sea… God is in the midst of her (His city/people): she shall not be moved. God shall help her, and that right early! The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved, but He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of Armies is with us. Selah (consider this)!

Maranatha.
