Arise, O Lord

It’s important to notice that of all the furniture for the Tabernacle and Temple, chairs were absent. The work of the priest was never finished. So it stands out when we read of Jesus… “When He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High.” – (Hebrews 1:3).

He had shouted it from the Cross, “It is finished!” And when He ascended, the Bible records the conversation between Father and Son… “Jehovah said to Adonai, ‘Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool.” – (Psalm 110:1).

Done is the work that saves” we still sing from thankful hearts. But after two thousand years of the Gospel traversing the globe, we’re all longing for Him to stand… Arise, O Lord, in your anger… Arise, O Lord, let not man prevail… Arise, O Lord, lift up Your hand… Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down… Arise, O God, plead Your own cause… Arise, O God, judge the earth!”

Our day will come, but the Bible reminds us that this is our time to stand… “Bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, which by night stand in the house of the Lord. Lift up your hands in the Sanctuary and bless the Lord” – (Psalm 135:1,2). For us there are no chairs until Jesus returns and then we too shall be seated with Him in rest.

It was to His faithful disciples who had forsaken all worldly ease to follow Him, that He said, “In My Kingdom, you also shall sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” To those who He finds sleepless, watching for His return, He promised to “gird Himself, and make them sit down to a meal, while He comes forth and serves them.” And it was to the last Church of Laodicea, to those willing to stand zealously for Him, in the face of a woke, self-absorbed generation, that Jesus said, “To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am sitting down with My Father in His throne.”

Our rest is coming. Stand strong in this last hour.
