We count the year as 2025 because of Jesus. The One who split time by His first appearing, gave rise to our calendar of BC, “Before Christ,” and AD, “Anno Domini” meaning, “The year of our Lord.” Today this abbreviation has been changed to CE and BCE (Common Era, and, Before the Common Era), in a futile effort to drop any association with Jesus.
The Romans named this month “Janus” after a god they claimed was a door. He had two faces, one that could see back to the beginning, and one that could see to the end of time. Of course, that description was stolen from Jesus too… “I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure” (Isaiah 46:9,10).
Jesus is also the Father of Eternity (Isaiah 9:6). This means He is the Creator of Time and everything that has eternal value. Isaiah lists nine of them… He made an everlasting Covenant with us through His Cross, and called us to Himself in everlasting love, that He might give us everlasting salvation, everlasting strength, everlasting joy, everlasting light, everlasting righteousness, an everlasting name, and shower us with everlasting kindness for eternal ages – and this includes 2025.
How wonderful to know we’re entering another year that belongs to our Lord, who is the Door to Heaven and every possible blessing from Heaven to mankind (Ephesians 1:3). He is the Beginning and the Ending – and we face the days ahead safely tucked in His nail-pierced hands – and His Word of Truth firmly tucked in ours. How blessed we are! Happy New Year!
