An Eternal Perspective

Writer: Lisa CatafordLisa Cataford

“For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be; yes, you shall diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” – (Psalm 37)

Life’s trials, though seeming long to us, are but “a little while” in God’s timetable. This false sense of time applies to pleasures as well, for the pleasures of sin, that some spend their whole lives seeking, are only “for a season.” Our world, that we think will last indefinitely, is passing away, as Jesus warned. How vital then that we keep an eternal perspective in this life.

Jesus walked this earth as the eternal Son of God.  He said, “Yet a little while am I with you, and then I return to Him that sent Me … yet a little while and the world sees Me no more; but you shall see Me: because I live, you shall live also.” He contrasted the temporal with the eternal and constantly pointed to realities beyond the vapor of this life.

HIs little while on earth resulted in His death, so that all who trust in Him might live - not merely “a little while” - but forever.  The Lord tells us to encourage each other with these truths … “For yet a little while, and He that shall come, will come, and will not tarry” (Hebrews 10:37).

One day soon, our “little while” will blossom into “the ages to come,” so may we use the short time we have left to make our “little while” count for eternity.
