Almost Persuaded

The apostle Paul, in Acts 26, was given the rare privilege to preach the gospel before King Herod Agrippa. Wouldn’t you have loved to have been there? What a rare opportunity! He gave his full testimony of being blinded on the road to Damascus, and then hearing Jesus’ voice asking him why he is persecuting Him. He told everyone that he completely surrendered his life to Jesus and now spreads the message of the need to “repent of sin and a turn to God (vs 19) to both the Jews AND the Gentiles.”

How did King Herod Agrippa respond? He listened to all he said, then got up and walked out after saying to him, “Did you think you could persuade me to become a Christian?”

Think of all who heard the clear gospel that day. The king’s entire entourage, the guards, the entire court staff, the press… only God knows what fruit came from this opportunity. How many of us have friends and family members that are “almost persuaded?” They’ve heard the Gospel a thousand times, but it’s their friend that receives Christ.

We must not forget that at the foot of the cross were many Roman soldiers that had partaken in this savage murder. They laughed and cast lots over His royal robe as if it was all one big joke. But after He died, the earth grew dark and began to quake. ONE centurion, yes, just one, said, “Certainly, this was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54)

Although the majority of the soldiers were merely intrigued by Jesus, there was one that was more than persuaded and acknowledged Jesus as Lord. Imagine the testimony he would share? I bet he couldn’t be kept silent.

Please, share the Great News. Somebody - even somebody unexpected, will listen and be forever changed.
