The most common question in Christianity today is, “Why is there so much pain and suffering in the world if God is love?”
People have forgotten that this world is under the curse of sin and death. “The wages of sin is death,” and this death comes in a million different ways, but Jesus came and died on the cross that we might have an Off Ramp to a New Way, where True Hope and everlasting life becomes our story. Trusting in Jesus as Savior is the first step towards this New Life. (Romans 5:12, 6:23).
But even as Believers, the weight of loss, and the grief and pain that come with this life, is overbearing at times. We can feel crushed under it. Take heart, weary ones, Jesus is going to intervene. This reign of sin and death has an end! When Jesus comes again in power and glory, sin, suffering, and death will be destroyed. He proved His power over them already by resurrecting from the dead and conquering sin and death.
While we endure here, we are encouraged to look past this present time, to a day that’s coming soon, where everything is made right… “We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth where Righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13).
Our pain is our biggest reminder that our hearts yearn for Heaven. We were created to live with God where sin and death are no more; where tears never flow, and grief and sorrow are all in the past. This is our Real Home and our Forever Future, and it’s coming! In order to cope now, we must see Eternity.
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”
