“And He shall be the stability of your times, strength of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the LORD is His treasure (to you).” – (Hebrew Bible; Isaiah 33:6)
The word stability means “faithfulness, security, steadiness.” This verse comes in a chapter that tells of great treachery but promises the Lord’s faithfulness will never fail to uphold His people.
Noah continued to faithfully build the Ark. Abraham continued to build altars to praise the faithfulness of God. Joseph continued to do all things as to the Lord and not to men. Moses continued to lead others out of slavery. Joshua and Caleb continued to see victory in God’s power, where others only saw the size of the giants. The list is endless. But through the ages of time, the heroes of the faith shared this truth: The Lord was the stability of their times.
Sometimes we are like Peter, walking on the water in faith and feeling confident. Then we see more of the evil-doings of the wicked, and our hearts begin to sink. That’s the time to get our eyes off the boisterous waves and back onto the power of our Christ… “The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His Covenant (i.e., faithfully keep His promises). My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.” – (Ps. 25:14.15)
“Thanks be to God who gives us the victory (over sin and death and evil) through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” – (1 Corinthians 15:57,58).
Walk on the waves – and keep your eyes on Jesus.
