Access Granted

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

Until Jesus’ death on the cross, access to God was done through the High Priest once a year. He was granted access behind the curtain that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. This was a momentous occasion, requiring much preparation, but when Jesus hung on the cross, near death, He shouted, “It is finished!” and at that very moment, the curtain to the Most Holy Place (God) was ripped in two from the top to the bottom (Matthew 27:51). Access to God was now granted to all people, from the rich to the poor, to the free and the slave, the young to the old. A New Covenant had been made.

This “access” we now have, is often taken for granted. The Believers of ancient times could’ve only dreamed of the direct access to God the Father that we now have. May we never forget that this unfettered entry was costly! It was purchased in blood, torture, and a cruel death. We enter through the “torn” body of Christ…  “Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body… let us draw near to God with a sincere heart” (Hebrews 10:19-22).

Dear ones, the barrier that was removed was a sign of even Greater things to come. Soon, all our prayers that are spoken in faith, will be replaced with fellowship “face to face.” The God that we “have not seen, but loved,” will be before us in all His magnificent Glory. He will “wipe away every tear from our faces.” What a thought to be touched so tenderly by our Lord! Our mortality, that was a constant reminder that the final enemy “death” was approaching, no longer threatens us, but is replaced with immortality. Our faith, that had grown weary, is now transformed behind the veil, and it is given joyous sight!

Oh, how abundantly blessed we are to have access to the One that is ALL good, ALL loving, and ALL just. And to be able to talk to Him about all that burdens us and to KNOW he hears every sigh. May our hearts be encouraged to pray more, as we see The Day approaching. Friends, we have access to the only One who can make all things right. Let’s use it.
