A Thrill Of Hope

Writer's picture: Lisa CatafordLisa Cataford

O Holy Night, was written in 1847, but the lyrics resonate still today... a world mired in sin is longing for Hope, tired and weary with the weight of it all… until Jesus was born, and then everything changed!

O holy night

The stars are brightly shining

It is the night of our dear Savior's birth

Long lay the world in sin and error, pining

'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn'

Fall on your knees, O, hear the Angels' voices

O night divine, O night when Christ was born.

Hope - it’s everything the weary world needs right now, and this Hope was given to us in Jesus. Just as the song says, “When He appeared, our soul felt its worth.” To God, our souls were precious and worth sending His only begotten Son into this sinful earth to redeem us (John 3:16).

Now that Jesus has come, there is a “Thrill of Hope! The weary world rejoices!” No longer will anyone ever have to wonder if God loves them, or if they have any worth to Him. He came for us. This is the greatest gift we will ever be given. It seems so fitting that the lyricist calls us to “Fall on our knees” in praise.

Friends, this “Thrill of Hope” is coming again, He promised us that. “And if I go, I will come again and receive you unto Myself that where I am there you may be also” (John 14:3).  May His promise fill you with an eternal Hope that keeps your heads lifted to the skies, and your hearts filled with joy. Hope lives! And soon He’s coming for us.
