“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them… and the world is passing away, and the lusts in it: but the one who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:15-17).
That this world is passing away is hard for some people to grasp. But God has warned multiple times that the evils which are in it will not be allowed to last. While some claim that “all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation, the Bible says they willingly ignore the historical fact that this is not true.
God’s wrath has already been demonstrated on the world through the global flood of Noah’s day, to which the fossil record still bears witness. The overthrow of ancient Egypt, for tyranny and slavery, is still evidenced by the chariot wheels of gold in the sea. The overthrow of the sexual perversion of ancient Sodom, the terrorism of Nineveh, and the idolatry of Babylon, whose ruins still exist to this day, stand as an “example to those who choose to live ungodly lives after them” (2 Peter 2:6).
Death and Hell are proof God is serious about sin – and the Cross is proof God is serious about saving us from it. The Cross is our rescue from the “wrath to come.” Those who turn to Christ for forgiveness of sins and the gift of righteousness, have God’s own assurance of exemption from that day… “Having been justified by Christ’s blood (cleared from guilt), we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”
The clouds of judgment are gathering. The eastern sky grows dark. What a comfort to know our Passports are secured and our Savior is near.
