A New & Glorious Morn

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

It seems so fitting that a star would guide the magi to the Christ Child, especially since one of His names is the Morning Star… (Matthew 2:1-12)

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I AM the root and descendent of David, the bright Morning Star” (Revelation 22:16). What exactly is a morning star…?

Astronomers have referred to Venus as the morning star because when Venus rises it means the sun will follow very soon thereafter - sometimes an hour, sometimes only minutes. It’s a sign of hope! Imminent hope! It means the long, dark night is about to break into Glorious Light - an Eternal light where He Himself is the Light, and “darkness cannot overtake it.”

May our weary hearts rejoice in this Truth, that He entered this world, knowing He came to die, that we might be partakers of His Light. “Jesus said, I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life” (John 8:12).

O Holy Night, the stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth;

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

‘Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! Oh hear the angel’s voices,

Oh night, divine! Oh night when Christ was born.

What a joy it is to know that one day soon our night is going to turn to day, and it will be the beginning of a new and Glorious Morn. Oh dear ones, keep watching. “The night is far spent and the Morning is near.”
