A House Divided

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

Within a family there are many different world perspectives. Some love the progressive mindset, others the conservative. Some love living as a child of their Creator and others live only according to logic and science that can be seen and measured. Some live for eternity, the others, live for the present. Some live constantly trying to bring their fleshly desires into submission while others live to satisfy those same passions.

How does a family, a country, a nation, a world, live divided? One side declares they will rule with freedom and all will be well… but it’s not. The other side plots their demise and plans their death. Scripture says it’s a sign of the end…  “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come” (Mark 3:24-26).

We are in the last days. As the nations fight over policy, Satan laughs at their well orchestrated distraction. We are all in the speeding bus fighting and clawing for our rights while we race towards eternity’s cliff. We will all awake in eternity with one question asked, “What did you do with Christ?” Did we forget that He warned us to “Prepare to meet thy God?” (Amos 4:12)

Politics only matter temporarily, but what we do with Christ matters eternally. Let’s make sure we aren’t distracted from what really matters, because Jesus is near.
