A Good Sign

When Haman was exalted, in the days of Esther, no one knew he was a rabid antisemite until a Jew named Mordecai would not bow to him in the courtyards.  That’s all that was needed to bring his hatred out of hiding.

Haman gathered his evil friends in the beginning of the year. He made it his New Years Resolution to cast dice for a whole year before determining the best day to kill them all. He approached the king with a veiled message of a “certain people” that needed to be exterminated, and the preoccupied king fell for it. The date was set for the end of that year and published. God’s people prayed.

Then one sleepless night the king called for his record book and realized Mordecai had saved his life months ago and had not been honored for it. Suddenly he heard Haman in the hallway and asked him what should be done “for the man the king delights to honor.” Of course, Haman imagined this was for himself, so to our great delight, he was forced to publicly honor Mordecai with the honor he wished upon himself.

Haman raced home with a bruised ego to tell his wife and his friends. They prophesied to him… “If Mordecai is of the seed of the Jews, before whom you have begun to fall, you shall surely not prevail against him but shall surely fall before him” (Esther 6:13). They were right.

We’re seeing the well-crafted plans of the wicked beginning to fall before our eyes. It’s a good sign. Our God is the Guardian of truth. He warned the wicked, “Be sure your sins will find you out.” He can’t be deceived, nor does He slumber or sleep, and His books are open. Keep praying.
