A Gift Beyond Compare

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord. In the morning will I direct my prayer to You and will look up” (Psalm 5:3).

Prayer is an amazing blood-bought gift. How wonderful that we can commit each new day to the Lord, seeking His intervention and help for all that we face - the loved ones who are sick, the problems that seems like mountains in our path, the distresses of our world, and concerns for those who need to be saved – to name a few. Then, after pouring out our hearts to Him, we can look up expectantly, all throughout the day, for His loving answers.

What peace comes to our hearts and minds because we can pray! This is the Lord’s promise… “Be anxious for nothing (not one single thing). But in everything, through prayer and petitions with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6,7).

Not only does prayer move earth’s problems to Heaven’s Throne-room, but it takes the stress off us, knowing our concerns are in far Greater Hands. And when our prayers are answered, our eyes are opened to the awesome reality of God’s presence in our lives, inspiring us to trust Him more. An alertness to the goodness and power of God marks those who pray. And it’s true that our strength as Christians grows in proportion to the time spent in prayer and the study of God’s Word.

God has gifted a dying world with eternal life through the Cross of Christ. All who receive Him, through a prayer of faith, are gifted with a permanent standing in favor with God, everlasting righteousness, and 24/7 access in prayer, with this promise… “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers.” What a Gift beyond compare!
