A Call To Trust Him More

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

Moses had heard from God. The bush burned, but wasn’t consumed, and God spoke. Moses was to return to his people and lead them out of bondage. This encounter with the Great “I AM,” not only changed Moses’ plans, but a later encounter also changed his face - it shone with the light of God.

Upon returning to Egypt, Moses’ interaction with Pharaoh was a mix of mockery and contempt. Not one thing Moses requested was granted, in fact, the cruelty intensified. Now, the Children of Israel were to glean their own straw for the bricks, but the quota must not drop, even by one!

Did this result mean that Moses wasn’t doing God’s will? Have we been somehow fooled into thinking that when things go smoothly we’re in God’s will, and when they don’t, we aren’t? There’s nothing further from the truth. When we are doing God’s will, all the forces of evil will rise up against us. Unexpected hardships will arise, sickness will develop, finances will be strained, and relationships tested.

What did Moses do? He pressed on in faith. He didn’t quit, and storm back to Midian, he persevered. As he continued to repeatedly call unto God, miracle after miracle happened. The eyes of the unbelieving were opened to the power of God, like never before.

Friends, these days are trying, but may we rise up in bold faith like Moses and continually call upon the Lord. And just as God responded to Moses, He also responds to us… “I have surely seen the affliction of My people… and have heard their cries of distress, and I know their sufferings” (Exodus 3:7). Take heart, dear ones, He will also deliver us out of our trials.

May we purpose anew each day to trust God more than the day before. This is the only way to be delivered from this present darkness.
