The Virgin Birth of Christ was preparation for His death on the cross. It was necessary for Jesus, who is sinless, to have a body untainted by sin to indwell… “It is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. Wherefore, when He (Jesus) came into the world, He said, ‘Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me.”
It’s worth noting that not a single animal sacrifice, even as teaching tools, pleased God. Jesus speaks directly about this… “In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have had no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Lo, I come (in the volume of the Book it is written concerning Me), to do Your will, O God” (Hebrews 10:5-7).
Jesus was quoting Psalm 40:7, where it says, “I delight to do Your will, My God.” What was God’s will? Our salvation from sin, death, and hell, in a Perfect once-for-all Sacrifice, to end all sacrifices, and to “save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him” (Hebrews 7:25).
It’s marvelous to read, over seventy times in the Bible, that it was God’s “good pleasure” to save us through His Son. “Good-will toward men” is Heaven’s proclamation to sinners that still rings across the globe. And all who receive Christ as Savior are assured… “Now unto Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy” (Jude 1:24).
“To God be the glory, great things He has done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son!
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the Life Gate that all may go in.”
May our delight in Him only grow. Hallelujah!
